Child Rights Training
PKL will expand its juvenile justice, NGO/CBO and primary school CR training and community awareness work, focussing specifically on the introduction and institutionalisation of alternative, PMD and professional codes of conduct within primary schools and other institutions and, through its membership of NGO networks, will lobby the government to introduce these practices throughout the formal primary education and juvenile justice system.
Legal Aid Services
PKL started working with Children in Conflict with the Law in 1999, in response to constant complaints by children interviewed during street work in Nairobi about their repeated arrest, lack of representation and appalling treatment within the juvenile justice system. Pendekezo Letu’s Legal Officer remains as a full-time advocate providing free legal representation in Nairobi’s Juvenile Court for children charged with criminal offences (drug trafficking, theft, assault, etc).
Lobbying and Advocacy
PKL’s membership of NGO advocacy networks will remain the key instrument through which it will contribute to policy advocacy. The Organization has made a great step in networking and advocacy and especially with a full time Advocacy department. Pendekezo Letu has been able to join and actively participate in large and effective networks at the National level and not only at the grass roots
